چکیده

We report the theoretical and experimental study of a temperature sensor based on the changing of the refractive index with the temperature in double core optical fibre. Because of it the coupling coefficient between two cores depends on temperature. This sensor uses the double core fibre directly as a temperature sensor as well to a data transmission. The influence of variations of the temperature from 0C to 135C on the coupling coefficient (refractive index) is measured and we received the relation between the temperature and the signal in coupled core. This kind of sensor can be used for public safety, health and security systems.

An Optical Fibre Depth (Pressure) Sensor for Remote Operated Vehicles in Underwater Applications

A miniature sensor for accurate measurement of pressure (depth) with temperature compensation in the ocean environment is described. The sensor is based on an optical fibre Extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer (EFPI) combined with a Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG). The EFPI provides pressure measurements while the Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) provides temperature measurements. The sensor is mechanically...

A suite of optical fibre sensors for structural condition monitoring

This paper is to review the research activities at City University London in the development of a range of fibre Bragg grating (FBG)-based sensors, including strain, temperature, relative humidity, vibration and acoustic sensors, with an aim to meet the increasing demands from industry for structural condition monitoring. As a result, arrays of optical fibre sensors have been instrumented into ...

Distributed optical fibre sensing at 1.65μm using a Q-switched fibre laser

It is becoming increasingly vital to monitor telecommunication links during operation and installation process. By using a high peak power source and the optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) technique operating at the wavelength region of 1.6μm, it is possible to monitor conventional C-band Erbium-doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) systems whilst transmitting data, and to characterise losses at t...

A long period grating-based chemical sensor insensitive to the influence of interfering parameters.

An optical fibre chemical sensor that is insensitive to interfering parameters including temperature and surrounding refractive index is described. The sensor is based upon a Mach-Zehnder interferometer formed by a pair of identical cascaded long period gratings (LPGs), with the entire device coated with a mesoporous coating of silica nanoparticles. A functional material is infused only into th...

Polymer PCF Bragg grating sensors based on poly(methyl methacrylate) and TOPAS cyclic olefin copolymer

Fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensors have been fabricated in polymer photonic crystal fibre (PCF). Results are presented using two different types of polymer optical fibre (POF); first multimode PCF with a core diameter of 50μm based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and second, endlessly single mode PCF with a core diameter of 6μm based on TOPAS cyclic olefin copolymer. Bragg grating inscriptio...
